National Education Policy (2020) envisions the use of technology in education. It also emphasizes the safety and security of children, including cyber safety and security to provide a pleasant and productive learning space. NEP 2020 emphasizes that ‘Children and adolescents enrolled in schools must not be forgotten in this whole process; after all, the school system is designed for them. Careful attention must be paid to their safety and rights’ (Para 8.11).
With the recent shift towards e-learning, and a significant increase in online communications has exposed the risk of cyberattacks; cybercriminals are finding opportunities to defraud schools, steal sensitive information or deploy ransomware schemes. It is necessary for every individual to take the responsibility in safeguarding oneself in the cyber world. Safe online communication also cultivates digital citizenship skills, promoting responsible behavior and respectful online interactions. It is essential for creating a secure and supportive learning environment for all. Hence every individual needs to establish safe online communication practices and school needs to create a secure and positive learning environment in order to safeguard oneself in the cyber world.
